From Excuses to Excitement: Unleash Your Inner Content Superstar

I want to start sharing content…..but.

Smart, accomplished people have a lot of ‘buts’ when I ask why they aren’t sharing their perspectives online.

Let’s look at some of the top reasons (any of these sound familiar?):

1️⃣ But, what if what I have to say isn’t original or as insightful as I thought?

Embrace your unique experiences and share personal stories. After all, you’re the #1 expert on your own adventures. Or shine a light on things you found helpful like 5 tools you use every day as a product leader.

2️⃣ But, what if people see what I’m doing and judge me?

Most folks are too busy managing their own career to scrutinize your every move. You’ll soon be frustrated by how few people actually pay attention :)

3️⃣ But, what if I get nasty messages in my comments?

On LinkedIn and Medium, trolls are pretty rare. But if they do show up, mute, ignore, or block them. You can even thank them for adding their perspective while gracefully moving on.

4️⃣ But, what if no one engages with my content?

Think of your writing as an experiment. You won’t know what works until you try different things. Every bit of feedback is valuable. It takes time, about 3 months, to find your voice and build your audience.

5️⃣ But, what if I say the wrong things and lose clients?

Authenticity attracts the right clients who resonate with your message. If you do make a misstep, own it, learn from it, and move forward.

6️⃣ But, what if I’m not a great writer?

Enlist the support of a trusted colleague to proofread your content. Tools like Grammarly and Hemingway app can also be your secret weapons. And, if writing isn’t your thing, explore the world of carousels, infographics, or videos.

These 6 ‘buts’ hold back about 99% of people from sharing their thoughts online. This means we hear a lot from the same small group of voices ( 👋 hi, fellow writers).

I believe everyone has something valuable to share.

To the 99% — I’m here to cheer you on. Drop me a note if you need a little extra encouragement to get started and head on over to LinkedIn to say hi!
